How Crate Training Helps with Potty Training

by admin

If you’re ready to potty training a dog or a puppy you are probably wondering if crate training is a necessary thing to implement within your training regime.  This article will go over the pros and the cons of potty training using a crate so you can see the benefits of crate training your puppy.

First off, dogs by nature do not use the bathroom in places they feel is their home.  They will hold it until they go outside or find a spot that’s not inside the home to use the bathroom.  The problem with our houses is that they are way too big for our dogs to consider the entire home their home as well (at least at first).  Dogs are used to smaller dens to call them home and will need one of these so they can consider it their home.  Because as far as your dog knows he is in a large protected den that is not his when he is inside your home.

You may be asking you self “what is the benefit of crate training”.  Since dogs do not use the bathroom in places they feel is their home, they will wait until they go outside to use the bathroom.  So if you are going to the store you can put your dog inside his crate and can be worry free about him using the bathroom inside.  It’s also helpful if you have just taken him outside and he didn’t go to the bathroom and your scared he may potty when he goes back inside.
